I don’t know about you but I have several ways to mark important pages in my journal. When I make journals, I attach a ribbon bookmark and make an additional paper bookmark. You can see my journals here. But I am always needing/wanting additional ways to mark pages I want to quickly find. I use washi tape on the edges of pages (love, love, love the look of this, especially when the journal is closed) but I still need more. So I came up with a way to mark individual pages with a DIY corner marker.
These things are easy and fast to make and, I think, adorable. Now it will take me longer to explain how to make them than it will take you to actually make them. But be warned, you will want to make LOTS of them.
And, yes, before you point this out to me and the world, it would be easier to make a video about this little project, but I’m just not there yet. I'm still trying to figure out the ins & outs of maintaining a website. So I see videos in my future, but not for this project. No worries, I have plenty (too many??) photos of each step.
So let’s start…
First gather a bunch of used envelopes: envelopes bills come in, envelopes inside the envelopes bills come in, or junk mail envelopes. You get the idea.
Now find a clean corner. I usually find the lower right corner holds the best possibilities. Mark 1.5 inches (that’s what I use but you can use whatever size you want. Just use the same measurement on each side) on the right side of the corner and the bottom of the corner (refer to the photos below)
Draw a straight line between both of your marks and cut the triangle off. You might want to have a little pile of these little gems before you move to the next step.
Now the fun part. I used washi tape to decorate the corner markers. But you could doodle on them (I just thought of that and that would be very cool), color with markers or colored pencils, whatever you choose. I haven't tried any liquid medium as I'm not sure they would hold up, but give it a try.
Pick out a washi tape. Line it up with the bottom of the triangle and attach. You want a little extra on each end that you will fold down and then cut off the extra that is now at the bottom of the triangle. (Confused? see photos)
On to the next step, turn the triangle over. You have a blank in the center. I chose washi tape but, once again, you could do whatever your heart desires in the blank area. I added a piece of washi tape down the center and cut off the extra on the bottom and at the peak.
Turn the triangle over, back to the original side. There is a blank area at the peak of the triangle. I used washi tape to cover it. (See photos) Or you could leave this blank and write a word or two in the space that pertains to what is on your page.
Voila! A corner marker for your journal.
However, I do one last thing. I don’t want the corner marker to just randomly come off. That defeats the whole purpose. So I add a removable glue dot to the inside. Once the glue dot is inside the corner marker, I carefully and slowly place the marker on the corner of the page and press it down into place. These are removable but you must be very gentle if you want to take the corner marker off. Carefully lift up on the side the glue dot is on and slowly release it from your page.
So there you have it. Pretty easy, right? I hope you enjoy making these and using them in your journals. They are useful and oh so adorable.
